After a year and a half of waiting, i was finally able to see TRON Legacy yesterday, lets see if i can do this without giving any spoilers away. one word that would sum up all of my feelings on this matter is “wow”. first of all the story is excellent, it keeps you gripped to your seat and doesn’t let go until the credits start rolling. its the kind of story where you’re into it but along the way you are able draw your own conclusions and figure out how you want the story to end. it also has a subtle way of making you want a specific ending to happen but leaves you with a different end you’re still satisfied with. typically with this style of movie the beginning is really slow going and it picks up as it goes on, but TRON starts fast and stays fast until it ends. its not the kind of movie that goes too fast either. each location and character has a pretty great deal of development to them, but they somehow manage to squeeze it all into 2 hours and 7 minutes.
speaking of locations, the sets and cgi are IMMACULATE. i want to sell all my possessions and rob 10 banks so that i can afford to buy a giant house that looks like the grid. the whole place has that cold, futuristic, dystopian look to it. they have a great way of separating the grid and kevin flynn’s house too. the grid has a much more industrial, gritty, circuits everywhere type look to it while flynn’s place is much more elegant and clean. the whole place manages to have that juxtaposition but still has the “its in a computer” look. i need to find the art directors and shake their hands.
now the soundtrack. where do i start? its FUCKING.DAFT.PUNK. well, daft punk PLUS AN ENTIRE ORCHESTRA. whoever at disney picked them to do the soundtrack gets ∞ gold stars. i don’t honestly think the movie would’ve been as good if they had just used generic action movie music during the battle scenes and the more emotional parts of the movie. it just all fit together so well. i’m also glad i saw the movie before getting the soundtrack because if i had gotten it beforehand i would’ve played it on repeat a bajillion times in one night and have been sick of it before even seeing the movie.
well i guess i should stop here before i let something slip. theres so much more i want to post but i want people to find it out for themselves and not have my opinions adulterate them. so basically see it, see it in 3D, see it again. 10/10 stars, 2 thumbs up, 5/5, a 10/10 on the IT BURNS SO GOOD meter. since i have nothing else to look forward to now i’m gonna go kill myself seeya later
